Visual Arts

On Wednesday 24th February, the Year 7 students attended the International Art Gallery to view artworks relating to their curriculum studies.

We analysed the design elements of many paintings at the gallery. We then looked at an Ancient Egyptian sarcophagus (minus the mummy of course). Students learnt about how Art was important for funerary rites into the afterlife for ancient Egyptians. It also connects with their studies in Humanities. We then had a general viewing of the gallery and the students most enjoyed the installations and interactive artworks.

On Monday 7th March, the Year 8 students attended the Federation Square Art Gallery to view artworks relating to their Curriculum studies.

We analysed many landscape paintings and discussed how they were made, as well as which ones earned the most profit. There were paintings from when Europeans first arrived in the Snowy Mountains and we contrasted this with the mundane city scape of Melbourne in the early 1950's.

We then looked at an Aboriginal landscapes and what certain areas meant to the people born there. For example, people would have an animal or food totem according to the area in which they were born.
